Time Distorter
Timer Project
The CLOCK Project is a four weeks project for students to develop an time keeping device that does not look like a wall clock. The project should interaction with the user and show engagement throught touch, experment, and power of meaning.
Time Distorter is a time keeping devise
The Time Distorter is a portable time keeping devise.
The users can rotate the top handle to set up the time. When the timer works, the indicator will rotate back and make sounds by pulling the strings.
At the same time, the board that pushes the strings will lower down and raise up, so that the sound will get lower when you set up the time and lighter after you release the timer.
When the indicator rotates, it plays the nylon strings. The fabric part between the two copper boards will twist and compress to change the voice of the string.
Place it on a tea table, tarot card table or any table for spiritual rituals for special timing needs.
For example, in a tea ritual, you can keep the time when boiling water and control time time when the tea dissolves.
As the sound goes, you can feel time of the whole universe distorting changes in your hand and affect what you are doing now.
To begin with: Sound Project
"Although everything in the world will be gone, this artistic feeling are under the surface and nothing can take it away, because we are a part of sound, and the world is a part of sound. Therefore, Sound lasts for ever."
Researches
There are verity of the size, usage and setting of timekeeping devices (clocks). The style and color are also flexible. The price range is varied from a couple dollars to hundreds dollars based on the function, materials, and design. Size is not the major reason that affect prices. The cheapest clocks have only the basic function and have little design elements. The expensive clocks has either antique meanings or perfect and accurate design. The clocks can be set in different places such as on the wall, on the table or attach to human body. Most of them uses plastic or metals. The older one uses wood. All of the duration are one years based on the battery. Having the battery changeable, they can last longer. Aesthetically, most of the shape is very static.
They are based on circle because of the limit of the rotating pointers. The only one that keeps away from circle element is the Ice Tube Clock Kit because it was based on electronic numbers instead of rotated clock pointers. The shadow clock also give up the traditional frame and only apply a circle to contain light and make shadow pointers. The ring clock get rid of the circle frame and uses the circle in the other way by making it as a ring. However, most of the cheep and traditional clocks still uses the circle frame and only changes details and colors to make differences. The use of colors are also static. They are all low intensity traditional colors like black, white, silver and brown.
